Planning on visiting?
Here's what to expect.
There aren't too many things more scary than going to a new place for the first time. Especially a church! Will they do weird things? Will they look at me funny? What will I wear? How long will it last? These are all very important questions, and ones that we want to help you answer before you arrive.
What do I wear? Wear whatever you want. We are a very casual fellowship. This is one of the benefits in meeting in a hotel. Our services are informal, most of the time we wear blue jeans and comfortable shirts.
Do you do wierd things? Well, that all depends on how "weird" is defined. Certainly we don't think the things we do are weird. We always begin our time with some informal chatting. Then we sing some songs. Don't worry if you can't sing, most of us can't either. We are thankful that God isn't interested in the way we sing, but the condition of our hearts when we do! Following our songs, we will have a time of prayer. We share some prayer requests openly with one another and then we pray. If no one has anything to share, then we pray and continue with a few more songs. Finally one of our teachers shares from a passage in the Bible and talks about how we can apply it to our everyday lives. That's it! Oh, and, after we are finished, we have a time of fellowship around tea and biscuits!
How long does the service last? The whole service lasts about 1-1.5 hours, and then the tea time.
Will they make me do something silly? Absolutely not. We won't embarrass you at all. We were all new to a church at one time or another, so we remember what it's like. We won't ask you to do anything you don't want to do.
What about my kids? We don't have any formal children's program or creche as of yet, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything for your kids to do. Each Sunday we find some space either in the room next door or in the hotel lobbey where the kids gather to hear a Bible story, do some crafts, and sing.
Why do you meet in a hotel conference center? The short answer is that we are a new fellowship and not really large enough to own a building. We hope to be in one at some point in the future. The long answer is that we believe that a church is more than just a building. That as those who have placed all their faith and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, we make up the church. So, as the Gospel according to St. Matthew says, "where two or more are gathered, there I am in their midst." The place that occurs is irrelevant.
